A Father’s Day
Father's Day is a special day for fathers.
They receive gifts from their children. It is all about family. It is to
recognize the importance of father's role in the family. In the United States
it is celebrated on the third Sunday of June.
This year it falls on 19 June.
Harry Meek, the then President of the Lions Club in Chicago celebrated the first Father's Day. It was celebrated on the third Sunday of June in 1915.
So many people over the years had a lot to say about their fathers. It is not surprising that since our fathers play role models in our lives, it is an obvious topic to write about. US Presidents to action movie stars, famous authors to playwrights – everyone has something to say about their fathers. For example, William Shakespeare, the great dramatist said, “It is a wise father who knows his own child.”
There is a story which goes round about a father and his child. One day the father overheard his child pray: “Dear God make me the kind of person my Daddy is”. Later that night the father prayed, “Dear God, make me the kind of person my child wants me to be”.
Giving gifts is one way of expressing love for one's father. There are many activities that one can organize to make Father's Day a memorable and enjoyable one for your father.
Some of the activities could be:
• A trek in the woods or countryside.
• A get-together of father's close relatives and friends.
• Play games and other outdoor activities.
• Prepare a sumptuous meal.
• A picnic or camping.
• Go with your father and rest of the family for a movie or concert.
